![Et spektakulært solnedgangsbilde fra naturfilmen 'Storfjord', som viser dramatiske røde og oransje skyer speilet i det rolige vannet. Filmen bruker timelapse-teknikk for å fange de fascinerende NLC-skyene (nattlysende skyer) over Storfjord. Dette bildet formidler naturens kraft og skjønnhet, perfekt for visuelle historier om himmelfenomener og nordisk natur. Along the vast mountain pass called the Panorama Road, between Fagernes and Hemsedal, lies the beautiful lake of Storfjord. With the mountain range known as Jotunheim on one side and the powerful Skogshorn (1728 m.a.s) on the other, this little valley lake is a perfect start for this summer's adventure. Our hunt for the famous noctilucent clouds start here.

Armed with a canoe, a fishing rod and a mountain of camera equipment we pull out from Storfjords southern most point. While it is summer, the weather gods have still decided to challenge us. Grey clouds and heavy winds make our lives hard, and the noctilucent clouds remain undiscovered. Hours turn into days as the hope to experience such a magnificent natural phenomenon slips away. The adventure is heading towards its end, and two mopy photographers decide to turn the canoe around and head home.

Right before the end destination, on the trips last night, it happens!
As dusk turns to night, the wind and the clouds are finally disappearing. The water, so quiet it reflects the night sky above, when, 80 000 meters above our heads, streams of light start to glow. The Noctilucent clouds. Like shining streams of mist glowing higher than any cloud on the night sky. Silence settles in and the only sound you can hear is the crackling fire, and the repetitive sound of the camera shutters capturing a rare phenomenon.
Noctilucent clouds, or NCLs are made up of ice particles high up in the atmosphere. The cloud-like formations form when the sun is between 6 and 16 degrees below the horizon, shooting light up at these ice particles that are reflecting it back down to earth.
The phenomenon is only visible during the summer months and in areas that lie between 50 and 70 latitude north or south of the equator.
NLC’s are formed much higher than normal clouds. Approximately 80 kilometers or 50 miles high in the atmosphere. This high they are out of reach of weather balloons, which makes them even more mysterious to scientists and photographers alike.
